An interesting motion picture has now been released after years of “being hidden”. The Formula (1980) investigates the theory that the Germans during WW II developed a means to produce synthetic oil that could be refined into gas and other products. It deals with coal gasification. The story opens as German officers plot to send a truck full of documents including the “FORMULA” for the process to the Americans, to keep it out of the advancing Russian Army. These German Officers believe that the documents would be a bargaining chip and the Americans would be more receptive than the Russians.
The Americans get the documents and the German General and the American Officer strike a deal. Fast Forward to the 1980 and their is a murder of a retired police officer. The murder is suspicious, and the detective that is assigned to the case, being a friend of the officer is given the case.
The story weaves it way back to Germany where the detective finds connections to the war and the documents. He also finds a connection to BIG OIL in the USA. The dialogue is quite interesting as it shows the connection between BIG OIL and OPEC, and how crude oil is controlled.
It shows that the “FORMULA” for the conversion of coal to gas was know back in the 1940, yet BIG OIL refused to let it out. And it shows how BIG OIL “sat” on the FORMULA for numerous years.
This film did not get much play in theaters and very little on TV. In fact for years it was hard to find a VHS copy of it on the market. It is now being shown on Direct TV.
It is well worth the time to view the film, as there is more truth in this film.
